Shadowy grey fog

makes lake and trees indistinct,

in monochrome matte,

to the first-arriving eye,

but slowly greenish leaves show,

and bluish pools of water

with red and white reflections,

a roof, a house, some gravestones–

all that distant fifty yards–

contrasted with greens up close,

the clear detail of grass blades,

sharply edged flowering shrubs,

as when back in Celtic days

a resident of this world

could slip into the other.
